Please put any recycling into bags, separating the different materials.
Plastic and Glass
Grade 1 and 2 plastic and glass can be recycled including bottles, jars, plastic milk and soft drink containers (lids removed) and shopping bags. Transfer stations also have bins for recycling glass. Remember, you cannot recycle light bulbs, drinking glasses, mugs and cookware, broken or window glass. Please remember to wash and squash plastics.
Paper or Cardboard
Paper and cardboard should be placed in bags and put in your recycling bin. Our transfer stations also have bins for recycling paper and cardboard. Remember, you can't recycle paper or cardboard that is waxed (eg. Milk cartons) or contaminated with food (like pizza boxes).
Food and Drink Cans
You can put out aluminum and steel cans if you have kerbside recycling and transfer stations have bins for recycling cans.
The Council operates refuse transfer stations in Hawera, Opunake, Eltham, Manaia, Waitotara, Waverley and Patea. Free recycling facilities, open 24 hours a day, are available at all transfer stations except for Hawera Transfer Stations which the recycling facility can only be reached in working hours.
The Council encourages recycling and asks residents not to put recyclables or green waste in your rubbish bins.
