How The Service Will Work For You
The Kerbside Collection for domestic waste operates as follows:
- A weekly kerbside collection for general waste (120l green bin)
- A weekly kerbside collection for Recycling (120l blue bin)
- A fortnightly kerbside collection for greenwaste (240l green bin needs to have a sticker on it purchased from any council office or LibraryPlus centre)
There are also refuse transfer stations in Hawera, Manaia, Opunake, Eltham, Waitotora, Waverley and Patea.
If you don't live in one of South Taranaki's urban areas, you may still be able to have your refuse collected. If you are able to take the bin to a safe pick-up point on the refuse collection route, a pick-up can be arranged and charged to your rates.
Safety First Please
Residents are reminded to remain well clear of the Rubbish trucks when operating in their street. As with the operation of any such equipment, there is always the risk of injury from the mechanical arm and the lifting of bins if children or adults are too close to the vehicle. It is advisable to always stay at least three metres away from the vehicle.
Composters
Although householders have an organics bin, the Council encourages home composting as this is still the best option for the environment. For more information on home composting, have a look at this brochure released by the Taranaki Regional Council.
