THE HUMAN-POWERED VEHICLE RACE
Race day was a stunning success for the fifty-five students who took part in the 'Can Do Trust's', Human Powered Vehicle Challenge. In fact the event was described by a representative from the Ministry of Youth development as 'the best project in the country!'

The Crazy Eights (AEA Stainless - Opunake) took out the Design Award, Metal Heads (GT Engineering - Hawera) took out the Team Spirit Award, the BRT Beasts (BRT Ltd - Hawera) took out the Creativity and Vehicle Specification Award. The race winner, by a very narrow margin, was Streaks Ahead (NDA Engineering) over BRT Beasts, and the Overall Winner was The Steelers (Croucher and Crowder - Hawera) The Can Do Trust was set up last year to foster projects that provide young people with learning opportunities supported by local industry. The challenge is the trust's first project. You can see the students work displayed in the old Warehouse building on High Street, Hawera.
